Doris has had a deep interest in family history and
pioneer life, and is proud of her Norwegian ancestors. She tries to keep in contact with relatives
in Norway. Even Doris' hobbies are
Norwegian . . . working hardanger
embroidery, and baking Norwegian foods.
Most of Doris' writings have a Norwegian flavor. And no wonder! Her roots are in Norway.
Her great grandparents were from the Toten area; her grandfather was
from Hurdal; her father was born in Aalesund, and her husband Hans was born
near Kristiansand. Growing up, she
heard the Norwegian language, learned Norwegian customs, and ate many Norwegian
foods. And now in her home she has many
beautiful Norwegian items, and follows many of the customs she grew up
with. Especially at Christmas, when there
are always Christmas bakings . . and lefse!
